STORRS, CT - The Providence College Men's and Women's Track teams competed in the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif. and the UConn Springtime Invitational in Storrs, Conn. this past weekend. A small squad of male and female athletes made the trip out to California, while the rest of the team competed in Connecticut.

In California on the men's side, senior Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) and sophomore Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) each ran well in the 1500m finishing in fifth and eighth place with times of 3:45.94 and 3:46.39, respectively. Both times qualified the athletes for the NCAA Regional Championships. At UConn, junior Charles Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) won the 800m in a time of 1:51.26 and senior James Lourenco (West Warwick, R.I.) placed third in a time of 1:53.25. Sophomores Michael Anderson (Ajax, Ont.) and Tom Webb (Barrington, R.I.) finished first and second in the 5000m with times of 14:51.24 and 15:02.38, respectively.

Leading the women in California was junior Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Sask.) who won the OD 5000m with a time of 16:15.91, which qualified her for the NCAA Regional Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. on May 30th and 31st. At UConn, junior Katie Elliot (Penfield, N.Y.) finished fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:15.04 and junior Katherine Schock (Norwood, Mass.) placed fifth in a time of 2:16.04.

 

 

The Friars will compete next in the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., starting on Thursday, April 24th and continuing until Saturday, April 26th. They will also compete in the Brown Springtime Invitational in Providence, R.I. on Sunday, April 27th.
